Since Holy Baptism is our incorporation into the
fellowship of the Holy Catholic Church, it is proper that this
sacrament be celebrated in the presence of the Church, the parish
family at worship. Normally Baptisms are administered at one of the
regular Sunday services. However, under special circumstances,
private Baptisms can be arranged by the Rector.
Children of parishioners should be baptized as soon after birth
as possible. In the case of the Baptism of a child, three
godparents are normally required, two of the child's own sex
and one of the opposite sex. Parents and godparents shall meet with
the Rector, at a time mutually agreed upon before the service, for
instruction in the meaning of Baptism, as well as their mutual
obligations. Only baptized persons shall be admitted as
godparents.
In the case of the Baptism of adults, it is required by the Book
of Common Prayer that the person to be baptized receive such
instruction "in the principles of the Christian religion"
as the rector shall think necessary.
