Christian marriage is the state of life ordained and
blessed by God, and as such the proper setting for the
Solemnization of Matrimony is the Church. Marriages may be
performed at any time of the year, save the season of Lent.
Marriages shall only be solemnized during Lent for weighty cause.
The canons state that a priest must have at least thirty days
notice of an impending wedding; they also stipulate that he may
decline any wedding for any reason.
The marriage of divorced persons is allowed, following the
formal consent and favorable judgement by the Bishop of
Georgia.
The taking of flash photographs in the church, while the service
is in progress, is forbidden. One video camera may be set up in the
door to the choir room. Only music with the words of Holy
Scripture, the Book of Common Prayer, or the Hymnal may be used.
All music used before, during, and after the ceremony shall be as
directed by the Rector. Similarly, the use of decorations in the
church is under the direction of the Altar Guild.
In accordance with Anglican tradition, the couple is encouraged
to receive Holy Communion on their wedding day and, therefore, the
nuptial Eucharist may be celebrated as part of the wedding ceremony
itself or in the morning before the wedding.
